A rollout succeeds or fails on planning. The software and hardware matter, but so does how and when people start using them.
Start with the users
Map who will use the system, where and how. Device choice, training and support all follow from that.
Specify hardware with the software
Choose devices once the software requirements are clear. Specifying them together avoids under-powered or incompatible equipment.
Pilot first
Run the system at one site or with one team before a full rollout. Problems found in a pilot are cheap to fix.
Plan support before go-live
Decide who people call, how issues are logged and how quickly they are fixed before the first user logs in.
